Visual Arts - This is a Set Up

Today I did my set up for Visual Arts 3, lecture taught by Petteri Nisunen.
Thanks Matissek for helping me to hung it from the window, otherwise I couldn't have done it!

THE CONCEPT

The aim of the project is to use everyday materials and give them a different meaning while they work with the sun creating a new atmosphere.

The diminishing of daylight hours was taken as a reference to develop this new atmosphere, which will help the onlooker to enjoy the sun in a new way, evoking new feelings.

Conceptually, the project works contrasting concepts, so every observer will get its own critical.

THE PLACE

From the very beginning the idea was to do a set up in busy space, so people could interact with it, and even be able to modify it.

The architecture department was chosen because of its good location and the size and orientation of the windows. Anoter reason is that this department is a busy building, with wide corridors and big spaces. Students go by very often and they would to appreciate a new atmosphere located somewhere for a short period of time. Several sketches were needed to consider the size of the art work and the relation the walls have with the indoor spaces.

THE IDEA

At the beginning, the idea was to create some kind of tunnel or threshold in somewhere outside, where we could enjoy the contrast of concepts. As the weather is getting colder and the sun light more dificult to reach, I needed to go upper and closer to an indoor space, because people use the outdoor spaces just for going from one place to another and not for delighting.

The surface of the windows were the perfect place to develop a new surface which could inter-actuate with the sun and the atmosphere of the building.

Alvar Aalto - Iglesia de las Tres Cruces

Aprovechando la visita a Imatra , y puesto que éramos un grupo de estudiantes de arquitectura , el alcalde de la ciudad junto con los directivos de Fortum nos hicieron un tour en autobús por la ciudad con una simpática guía británica, y nos enseñaron, a parte de los 3 cascos urbanos que componen la ciudad, la Iglesia de las Tres Cruces de Alvar Aalto . Aalto Museum - Jyäskylä

From my point of view, the most amazing collection of Aalto philosophy of design is able to be found in the Aalto Museum of Jyväskylä . We went there couple of weekends ago, and it was, from the city, what I liked the most. It is located close to the University, it is sited on a slope leading down towards Lake Jyväsjärvi . Completed in 1973 , the building, together with the Museum of Central Finland (Alvar Aalto 1961) form a centre of culture in the vicinity of the University of Jyväskylä (Alvar Aalto 1951-1971). We had to pay a 2€ fee for the access, (with the student discount) and we were there for 2 hours (and another 45 minutes in the café), so trust me when I say that it is worth visiting. Ravintola Kosmos - Helsinki

Ravintola, para aquellos que no lo sepan, quiere decir Restaurante. Así pues, esta entrada trata sobre una de mis únicas cenas en restaurantes que, aprovechando la visita parental y sabiendo que con mi vida de estudiante cenar en un restaurante no entra dentro de mis quehaceres, aproveché para elegir uno de categoría. Lo encontré en la guía Lonely Planet (la cual recomiendo enormemente a futuros exploradores) y no dudé en comprobar lo que en la guía describían. La cena fue excelente , el precio tampoco es desorbitado, teniendo en cuenta que estamos en Finlandia y todo es unas 3 ó 5 veces más caro (excepto el alcohol, que es 10 veces más caro y en muchas ocasiones 10 veces peor que en España) Para que os hagáis una idea comimos 5 personas con 2 entrantes, cervezas (grandes), un plato cada uno y un postre para compartir.
